Who I Am (my unofficial bio)
Like you, I have a story. Although I am not defined by that story, it helps to explain how I have become who I am today. My journey has brought me to a sense of our true nature, and it has also offered me glimpses of our great potential. It is from that place that I am inspired to share.
I didn't begin in the healing and self-empowerment field. In fact I think on a subconscious level I purposely avoided it. But circumstances led me to my calling anyway, sometimes with great resistance on my part! I've come to learn that when we resist being true to ourselves, we encounter challenges in our lives; they arise with the loving intention to redirect us more completely into our wholeness. Let's just say I've had plenty of that loving redirection.
As a young adult, I chose a "sensible" path, one which I believed would give me the kind of social approval, career accolades, and financial security I so craved. From the outside it probably looked quite impressive, but on the inside I was hurting deeply by denying myself. That denial took its toll on my health.
While I was working on my doctorate in mathematical statistics and working part-time as a statistician, I developed the early stages of cancer. As life would have it, early treatment was inadvisable. Instead doctors suggested waiting until the disease progressed before beginning what would be long-term, indefinite chemotherapy. So there I was, waiting and watching, with nothing curative in sight.
Although my physical symptoms were extremely mild, I found myself falling into an emotional and spiritual abyss, searching for a soft place to land. But there was no such place. As much as I tried to control the process, I found that my only choice was to let go. I believe it was through that surrender and the insights gained along the way which ultimately led me to my healing.
This self-healing opened my scientific eyes to a broader perspective on reality, and eventually redirected my path. After working as a research statistician for several years, I recognized that a career in statistics was not my passion, so I shifted to a more heart-centered life as a stay-at-home mom. I spent several years caring for my young children, and also began to explore aspects of our expansive reality which intrigued me. In some sense, after facing cancer and then birthing two babies, I began to birth myself.
I became fascinated by both energy healing and conscious manifestation techniques, reading many books and attending workshops to learn as much as possible. Along the way I went to a Reconnective Healing seminar, and on the first day of training I found myself coming "home" as a healer. Over the course of several years I went from a practitioner to an instructor of the work, teaching thousands around the world how to tap into subtle energy for healing.
Eventually my path shifted again, as I was intuitively guided to help create new energetic processes to assist people with transformation. It has brought me great joy to share these activations in both private sessions and through practitioner training. Anything that I can do to help others shift more fully into themselves helps me to do the same.
In a way, life came full circle: I have had the privilege of being on the other side of the research equation. In various university studies I have been a subject in experiments evaluating whether or not healers can effect change. The answer to this research question repeatedly has been a resounding "yes!" So that analytic mind of the statistician has gotten to see scientific validation of what the healer in me has come to know through personal and professional experience—that we have great power to affect our world by working with subtle energy.
After being in the field of energy healing for more than a decade, I began seeking an answer to a bigger question. Instead of just asking, "How can we heal and transform others?" I began asking the more empowering question: "Is there a way to help illuminate the path to all positive, lasting change so that many can walk down it?" Imagine my excitement when I discovered that there is unifying model covering all change, something which can help clarify how we can more successfully navigate our lives. It has come to be known as the Vibration of Change™, something which I am passionate about sharing with others.
On my radio show, I have had the honor of having hundreds of deep conversations with some of our planet's most conscious visionaries. Being in this role has propelled my own inner growth, and it has also served to expand my abilities as a teacher. Over the years I have also developed my own unique perspective about our current consciousness movement, and I have come to understand this: In order for us to get to that next level, we will need to shake up some things—even challenging some well established beliefs about spirituality. No one is more surprised than I am to discover that to step deeper into my purpose, I have had to let go of my desire to "fit in" and instead embrace my rebellious heart. I'm grateful that the world seems ready for my message; I share my message as a contributing author in a book out July 2019 as well as in my own book on spiritual myths due out in 2021.
I realize now that my story has been about learning, and teaching others what I have learned. I've also discovered that learning and teaching are often intertwined, and that each individual has aspects of both. My mission is to continue this journey into my more vibrant self, while encouraging others to do the same within their own lives. I look forward to connecting with you of this expansive journey, together.
